👶 Malaria in Babies: Causes, Symptoms & How to Protect Your Baby

– What is Malaria:
Malaria is a serious and life-threatening disease caused by Plasmodium parasites, which spread through the bite of an infected female Anopheles mosquito. Babies and young children are most vulnerable because their immune system is still weak. A mosquito bite can cause high fever, chills, poor feeding, vomiting, and pale skin in infants, and if not treated quickly, it can lead to severe anemia and other complications.

Paragraph 2 – Prevention:
The best protection is to prevent mosquito bites. Always make your baby sleep under an Insecticide-Treated Net (ITN), dress your baby in long sleeves, pants and socks especially at dusk and dawn, keep doors and windows screened, and remove all standing water from pots, coolers and tires where mosquitoes breed. New methods like permethrin-treated baby wraps and malaria vaccines (RTS,S and R21) have shown to reduce malaria cases by up to 66-75%. If your baby gets a fever, don’t try home treatment – consult your pediatrician immediately.
